Our suggestions for something fun to do in August around Metro Detroit and Michigan!  Please verify all dates & times before attending.

 

August 3th-6th, 2017The World’s Longest Yard Sale.  it’s 690 miles long and the route travels through 6 states; Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. The majority of the route follows Highway 127 from Addison, MI in the north to Chattanooga, TN in the south.   -Route 127

August 4th-5th, 2017: 

  • Allen Park Street Fair.  -Allen Park, MI
  • All American Blues, Brews & Barbecue. Celebrate Blues Music, some good Brew and lots of BBQ. There is a great music line up including our featured acts – Detroit Soul Revue and Thornetta Davis.  FREE admission -Westland, MI

August 5th-6th, 2017: The 22nd year of Jazz on the River will provide two full days of music and fun along the Detroit River’s edge at Elizabeth Park.  International and emerging artists will be featured during this festival.  Trenton, MI

August 6th, 2017 (Sun):  Historic Baseball at Greenfield Village. Baseball 1867 Style. Take your peanuts and Cracker Jack to 1867 as the Greenfield Village Lah-De-Dahs play by early base ball rules. -Dearborn, MI

August 11th, 2017 (Fri):  Family Field Day with a movie in the Park (The Lego Batman Movie).  Join Canton Leisure Services at Heritage Park for this family health and wellness event! Everyone can participate in these Canton Field Day events like traditional potato sack races and shoe kicks. Then stay for a movie in the park on the big screen. $11R/$13NR per family.  The movie is FREE.  No pre-registration required.   All ages.  -Canton, MI

August 12th, 2017 (Sat):

  • Westland Household Hazardous Waste Collection.   Only Wayne County residence with proof of ID.  Check link to learn more about what they will collect and what they won’t take.   -Westland, MI
  • Wayne County Parks presents Hobby Day.  This FREE event is to help you try a new hobby.  Some of the activities will include:  Birding, Horseback Riding, Geocaching, Juggling, Kite Building, Fishing, Photography, Canoeing, Astronomy, Chess, drawing & Painting.  -New Boston, MI
  • The Taco Festival Detroit at West Riverfront Park. -Detroit, MI

August 13th, 2017 (Sun):

Made In The Mitten Festival.  Crafters, vendors, Michigan businesses and local restaurants for the shopping experience of the year! -Royal Oak, MI

August 17th, 2017 (Thu):   Riverfront Relaxin’.  Celebrate summer along the beautiful Detroit Riverfront with the second annual Riverfront Relaxin’ entertainment series presented by the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy and in conjunction with Park Solutions. Featuring live music, food trucks, vendors and culminating with classic movies under the stars. FREE -Detroit, MI

August 18th, 2017 (Fri): 

  • Downtown Dearborn Ice Cream Social. The first 100 kids get their ice cream free! Decorate your treat with all the trimmings, and enjoy family friendly activities. There will be a bounce house and other activities for all the kids!  In addition to decorating your delicious dairy master pieces with toppings galore, enjoy corn hole games, Jenga, sidewalk chalk and inflatable fun. -Dearborn, MI

  • Detroit Pagan Pride Day.  A day full of activities, shopping, entertainment and informational classes.  Crafters and vendors will have an abundance of items for you to shop. If you’re in the market for witchy wares this is the event for you. -Ferndale, MI
  • The 23rd Annual Dream CruiseThe official Woodward Dream Cruise (23rd annual) is the world’s largest car cruise, held in metro Detroit – Oakland County, celebrating all things automotive, fuzzy dice, poodle skirts and classic rock n’ roll sounds. -Ferndale & Royal Oak, MI  TBOD
  • Selfridge Air National Guard Base Open House and Airshow. See the US Air Force Thunderbird’s. Celebrating 100 years of Military Aviation at the base.  FREE.  -Harrison Township, MI

August 21st, 2017 (Mon):  A Total Solar Eclipse, the first to appear over the mainland United States in nearly 40 years.  -Everywhere.

August 24th, 2017 (Thu): 

  • Music Under the Stars with Fifty Amp Fuse at Dearborn Hills Golf Course. Bring a chair or a blanket and enjoy! If possible, concerts will be re-scheduled or moved inside of the Dearborn Hills Clubhouse in the event of rain. Free Admission! -Dearborn, MI
  • Music in the Park Featuring Steve King and The Dittilies! Join the Garden City Business Alliance and the Garden City DDA as they once again host Music in the Park.  FREE.  -Garden City, MI

August 25th, 2017 (Fri):  Taste of Greece Festival.  Traditional Greek food, live Greek entertainment and music by the band Engima, Greek dance performances, open dancing for everyone, kids corner with games and bounce houses, Greek marketplace, taverna, coffee house and who could forget the delicious pastries! -Plymouth, MI

August 25-27th, 2017: Garlic & Music Festival.  Tempt every sense at Garlic & Music Festival – a weekend of tastes, scents, sights & sounds. Enjoy deliciously garlicky food, live music, cold beer & summer cocktails, cooking competitions, and plenty of family fun at Campus Martius.  -Detroit, MI

August 26th, 2017 (Sat):

  • ICP Carnival Of Carnage Show.  For the first time ever in Insane Clown Posse’s ongoing 26 year story career, the Wicked Clowns are performing a concert live in their original home turf of Southwest Detroit.  -Detroit, MI
  • Motor City Haunt Club’s 12th Annual Haunted Garage Sale. Masks, Costumes, Collectibles, Oddities, Props, Decorations, Animations, Wearables, Art, and So Much More! Expect a ton of tables to be filled with all sorts of Halloween and Haunt related treasures. There will be a large variety of vendors on hand offering handmade, new and used goods to haunt your home, decorate for your Halloween bash, or add to your existing collection. -Westland, MI

August 27th, 2017 (Sun):

  • Cruisin’ Hines.  Hines Park will be closed from Ann Arbor Trail to Ford Road 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. for cruisers to enjoy the open road. Traffic will be limited to classic cars that are 25 years old or older. -Westland, MI
  • Finders Keepers at Wayne County Fair Grounds. vintage, handmade & farmhouse style open-air market. Organic products, harvest tables, fresh flowers, furniture, home decor and clothing. -Belleville, MI
